U-T San Diego -- There was Johnny Dee sitting on three points with less than three minutes to play. There was shooting a measly two free throws the first 20 minutes, getting outrebounded, plus the two scoring droughts that stretched for more than a combined 10 minutes.
There was also this: despite some dismal offensive numbers, USD buckled down the final 2 minutes, 50 seconds of Thursday night’s West Coast Conference opener against Portland and walked off the Jenny Craig Pavilion floor with a 61-50 victory before an announced crowd of 1,851.
In addition to opening 1-0 in the WCC, the Toreros evened their season record at 8-8. It’s the latest in a season the Toreros have sat at .500 since Dec. 30, 2008.
