Yellow Ribbon Program

The University of San Diego School of Law is in a partnership agreement with the VA to be a 100% Yellow Ribbon school. This means eligible recipients will be able to have their entire tuition and eligible fees paid for through the USD Yellow Ribbon scholarship program in conjunction with the VA matching Yellow Ribbon scholarship program.

Students must contact the USD Law School VA Certifying Official via his/her USD email account every semester to confirm that he/ she is eligible and would like to participate in the Yellow Ribbon program.

What is the Yellow Ribbon Program?

All Veteran, Active Duty Service Members, Spouses, and Dependent Children students 100% eligible for Chapter 33 Post 9/11 G.I. Bill® are granted additional funding for tuition through the Yellow Ribbon Program at USD. There is no application to receive these funds as they are built into the financial aid calculation for eligible students.

The Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program) is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, also known as the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill® or Chapter 33. The Yellow Ribbon Program allows institutions of higher learning to enter into a voluntary agreement with the Department of Veterans Affairs to contribute funds to a veteran's unmet tuition and fees charges when their tuition and fees exceed the amount payable under Chapter 33. The program allows institutions to contribute an amount of up to 50 percent of a veteran's unmet costs; the Department of Veterans Affairs will match the amount.

The Yellow Ribbon scholarship is being coordinated with other USD grants and scholarships by replacing those grants and scholarships up to the amount of the Yellow Ribbon scholarship. Since the VA matches USD Yellow Ribbon scholarships, this ensures the student receives the full potential VA match without reducing their total USD scholarship.
