Creating and maintaining a culture of judicial independence is of vital importance both in national domestic legal systems and in the work of international courts and tribunals. This conference aims to provide an update on international standards of judicial independence around the world and to explore challenges facing the judiciary in both the national and international spheres. This conference is part of an ongoing project under the aegis of the Centre for Public Law at Cambridge University and Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. The latest publication arising from the proceedings of recent conferences has just been published: Shimon Shetreet & Christopher Forsyth (eds.), The Culture of Judicial Independence: Conceptual Foundations and Practical Challenges (Martinus Nijhoff Publishers, 2012).
