Professional Experience

After law school, Judge Kalemkiarian clerked for the Honorable Gordon Thompson Jr. at the U.S. District Court, Southern District of California. She then worked as a Skadden Fellow at the Legal Aid Society of San Diego and subsequently as a supervising attorney for USD’s Child Advocacy Clinic and as director of Project Heartbeat at the San Diego County Bar Association (SDCBA). In 2000, she became a founding partner with Ashworth, Blanchet, Christenson & Kalemkiarian, LLP, in San Diego. She is a State Bar of California Certified Family Law Specialist, and she practiced child and family law in San Diego for more than 20 years before being appointed a judge in the San Diego Superior Court in 2015.

Honors and Affiliations

Kalemkiarian served for nine years on the California Judicial Council Family and Juvenile Law Advisory Committee and is a regular contributor to LexisNexis’ California Family Law Monthly. From 2007 through 2010, she was named a Super Lawyer and in 2007, a San Diego Daily Transcript Top Attorney in Family Law. In 2000 she received the California Women Lawyers’ Fay Stender Award, and she was named Legal Professional of the Year by the SDCBA in 1997. Kalemkiarian was also a member of the San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board prior to her appointment to the judiciary.
