Professor Schulman teaches professional skills courses in alternative dispute resolution and complex litigation.
Schulman practiced in the area of complex class action litigation for 30 years and served as lead counsel in some of the largest and most significant securities class actions litigated in the U.S Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit. He was the partner in charge of the West Coast office of Bernstein Litowitz Berger & Grossmann LLP in San Diego, which he founded in 2000. Before joining Bernstein Litowitz, Schulman was a partner and former managing partner of the West Coast offices of Milberg Weiss Bershad Hynes & Lerach LLP, also in San Diego.
Honors and Affiliations
Schulman was the associate editor of the Louisiana Law Review. In 2005, he was named by the Los Angeles Daily Journal as one of the "Top 30 Securities Litigators" in California and by LawDragon to its list of "500 Leading Lawyers in America." He served as co-chair of the Southern District of California Lawyer Representatives to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference (2000 to 2001), was elected to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference Executive Committee (2002 to 2005) and served as program co-chair (2003 to 2004) and conference co-chair (2004 to 2005). Schulman also served as co-chair of the Securities Law Committee of the American Bar Association’s Litigation Section (1998 to 2001) and as president (2001) and a member of the Board of Governors of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers of San Diego (1995 to 2001). He is a member of the American Law Institute.
