Date and Time
Monday, October 4, 2010 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Members of the San Diego area bench and bar and the University of San Diego School of Law community will gather in USD’s Founders Chapel to participate in the Red Mass—a liturgy held to mark the opening of the judicial year.
The Red Mass dates back to the 13th century and is said to have started in France. Its name refers to the red color of the judges’ robes and priests’ vestments in attendance, representing the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. The mass is held to ask for divine guidance and assistance for the legal profession in performing its responsibilities. Legal professionals and law students of all religious traditions are welcome to attend.
A reception will follow in Founders Foyer and Patio. A response is requested for the reception to help obtain an accurate catering count. Please respond by September 30, 2010.
Visitor parking permits will be available at the main campus entrance kiosk. Please be sure to obtain a permit and display it in your vehicle.
