USD School of Law is pleased to offer more than 70 privately-funded endowed and/or current-use scholarships to deserving students, thanks to the generosity of its alumni and benefactors.

Albert and Mae Lee Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded annually to a continuing law student who demonstrates a strong scholastic ability and outstanding moral character.

Alberta S. Casey Legacy Endowed Scholarship

The Alberta S. Casey Scholarship is current-use and endowed scholarship, awarded to a graduate of the University of San Diego who continues his or her education as a graduate student at University of San Diego School of Law. Qualified applicants must be graduates of the University of San Diego prior to their admission to USD School of Law.

Alec Cory/Procopio Scholarship

This scholarship, in memory of Alec Cory, is awarded to a 3L or 4L law student who has demonstrated a strong commitment to public interest law.

Antonyan Miranda Scholarship

The Antonyan Miranda Named Scholarship is awarded to a law student with proven academic success, who has demonstrated interest in the field of Family Law, and demonstrated financial need.

Blanchard, Krasner & French Legacy Endowed Scholarship

This current-use and endowed scholarship is awarded to continuing law students who demonstrate financial need.

Businesslink Scholarship

This is part of a USD-wide scholarship created by gifts from BusinessLink Members (a corporate consortium). The law school scholarship will be based on financial need and/or merit.

C. Hugh Friedman Endowed Scholarship

Two scholarships will be awarded to two students who are beginning their final year of study at the School of Law (third year full-time student or fourth year part-time student), and who have demonstrated an interest and proficiency in business law. The students must have taken one or more courses in business law (examples include, but are not limited to, corporations, business planning, securities regulation and intellectual property), and have performed well academically in those courses. Preference is given to students with financial need.

Carr Ferguson Graduate Tax Research Fellowship

This scholarship is awarded to an LLM student, based on the merits of the applicant's scholastic and professional experience, as demonstrated by the contents of the applicant's admission file.

Cary Mack Scholarship

A scholarship will be awarded to a continuing law student who demonstrates financial need.

The Christopher McCallister Memorial Scholarship

Family, friends and the Class of 2007 seek to honor the leadership qualities and entrepreneurial spirit that were hallmarks of Chris McCallister's life created this scholarship. This award is available to a third-year law student in good standing who contributes to the diversity of the law school and/or to the legal profession generally because of their socio-economic background, life experiences, personal circumstances, or other obstacles he/she may have overcome. Preference is given to a student who has demonstrated leadership and entrepreneurial skills in professionally related endeavors or in community service or volunteer work.

Class of 1975 Scholarship

This scholarship from the Class of 1975 will be awarded to a 3L or 4L law student with demonstrated academic success and financial need.

Class of 1976 Scholarship

This scholarship from the Class of 1976 was established during their 2016 40-year reunion and will be awarded to a law student with academic success and financial need.

Class of 1979 Merit Scholarship

This scholarship from the Class of 1979 will be awarded to a 3L or 4L law student with demonstrated academic success, financial need, and marked improvement between their first and second year of law school.

Class of 1986 Scholarship

This scholarship from the Class of 1986 was established during their 2016 30-year reunion and will be awarded to a law student with academic success and financial need.

Congresswoman Lynn Schenk Endowed Law Scholarship

Two scholarships will be awarded to female law students who demonstrates tenacity and determination and who are of modest family economic circumstances. The awardees must be highly self-motivated (demonstrated by work outside of school and overcoming obstacles in pursuing education) and see challenges as enriching. The awardees must have knowledge and appreciation of the struggles of women in America for equality and of those who came before her to take on the struggles of equality. They must demonstrate a desire to open doors for others in the future. Additionally, the awardees must support the values of the Lawyers Club of San Diego, a feminist bar association seeking to advance the status of women in the law and society. In addition to the application, the scholarship committee has requested that a supplemental 1-page statement be submitted prior to the final decision being rendered. The topic will be provided to the finalists.

Darling Foundation Scholarship

Created by the Hugh and Hazel Darling Foundation, this scholarship will be awarded to a law student demonstrating financial need.

David S. Casey Trial Advocacy Scholarship

Two scholarships will be awarded to students showing promise in trial advocacy through achievements in connection with the Mock Trial Team, distinction in class work related to trial advocacy, or other such indicia of promise.

Dean Donald Weckstein Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is available to students with a demonstrated financial need and scholastic merit, for students of all years. Dean Garcia will accurately assess a student's personal and financial need based upon the student's personal statement, application to law school and academic standing (GPA and LSAT scores).

Delroy Richardson Endowed Law Scholarship

San Diego Gas and Electric endowed this scholarship in memory of their long-time employee Del Richardson. Del was a USD alumnus who was active in community and campus diversity issues. Grants from the Richardson family, other alumni, law firms and corporate contributors have supplemented this endowment. This scholarship is awarded to a student who enriches diversity, demonstrates need and has evidence of strong academic achievement.

DLA Piper Life Science and Technology Scholarship

This scholarship is open to anyone who currently works or, previously worked in any capacity at a life science, medical device or technology company.

Donna Lee Arledge Memorial Scholarship Fund

This scholarship was established in loving memory of Donna Lee Arledge. It will be awarded to a law student whose life has been impacted by cancer.

Faye Hunter Annual & Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a female law student who is currently pursuing or interested in pursuing a career practicing transactional law and has demonstrated financial need.

Finch, Thornton & Baird LLP Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a student with background in building, construction, engineering, or architecture.

Fiorenza and Hernando Courtright Endowed Scholarships

Two scholarships will be awarded to students whose family responsibilities require them to render financial assistance to their parent(s) or sibling(s) while attending law school. Single parents who are supporting their own children are also eligible to apply.

Founders Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded from donations made during the Founders Gala. Funds are to provide scholarship support and assistance for undergraduate and graduate students who have confirmed financial need.

Frank E. and Dimitra F. Rogozienski Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a law student who has demonstrated outstanding academic performance in business oriented law courses. Examples of such courses may include, but are not limited to, antitrust, bankruptcy, business planning, corporate finance, corporations, tax and other related corporate/business law courses. A preference will be given to third-year full-time and fourth-year part-time students who have completed two or more such courses.

Gerald and Donna McMahon Endowed Scholarship

Endowed by a gift from Gerald and Donna McMahon, a scholarship will be awarded to a student in good academic standing and who is making good progress toward completion of the requirements to earn the degree of Juris Doctor.

Grant Morris Endowed Scholarship Fund

The University of San Diego School of Law Class of 1976 established an endowed scholarship in Professor Grant Morris' name. It honors his nearly 30 years of service as a distinguished professor and twice acting Dean of the Law School. This scholarship is awarded to a continuing law student in need of assistance to lessen the financial burden of attending law school.

Harvey Levine Annual & Endowed Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded to a student with demonstrated financial need and a desire to helping others as well as a commitment to advocacy.

Helen and Webster Kinnaird Law Scholarship

A scholarship is awarded annually to a continuing law student (2L, 3L or 4L) who demonstrates financial need.

Higgs, Fletcher, and Mack LLP Diversity Scholarship

The Higgs, Fletcher & Mack Diversity Scholarship is a scholarship awarded to a student who has a demonstrated commitment to serving diverse communities. The scholarship supports the firm's efforts to promote diversity in the San Diego legal community and will be provided to a third (or fourth) year law student.

Irvin and Eleanor B. Kahn Endowed Scholarship

A scholarship will be awarded to a continuing law student who demonstrates financial need.

Jackson Lewis Labor and Employment Scholarship

The Jackson Lewis Law Scholarship is awarded to a law student who has demonstrated outstanding academic performance in labor and employment law courses with priority given to a student who enriches the diversity of the law school. Examples of employment law courses may include, but are not limited to, employment law, employment discrimination, labor law, ERISA & Employment Benefits, Employment Law & Technology and Work, Welfare & Justice. A preference will be given to third-year full-time and fourth-year part-time students who have completed two or more such courses.

James E. Spain Family Law School Student Aid Endowment

This scholarship provides eight awards to assist continuing part-time students.

James R. McCormick, Jr. - Peters & Freedman, L.L.P. Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded annually to a law student who demonstrates financial need, a strong work ethic and a commitment to the principled rigors of practicing law.

John Winters Memorial Fund

This scholarship was established to memorialize John M. Winters and his many years educating law students and his contributions to the School of Law at the University of San Diego. This scholarship is awarded to a third-year full-time or fourth-year part-time student. The primary criterion for selection is financial need. In those cases where more than one student qualifies based on relatively equal need, preference shall be given to the students who have families to support. If two or more students qualify based on financial need alone, any such tie shall be broken by taking into consideration the student's academic accomplishments and contributions to the School of Law.

Julie M. Robinson Legacy Endowed Scholarship

A current-use and endowed scholarship to be awarded to a female student at the University of San Diego School of Law who is pursuing a law degree as her second career, has a professional interest in business or corporate law and demonstrates financial need.

Karen P. Hewitt Annual & Endowed Scholarship Fund

Awarded annually to a law student with financial need, recognized merit and outstanding moral character. Preference will be given to students who are members of the active duty military, military veterans or those with a demonstrated interest in supporting the US military.

Keith F. Park Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship award is for a student with demonstrated financial need and academic success. Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens as determined by federal financial aid regulations. Preference will be given to students who are permanent residents of California.

Kevin and Bryan Briscoe Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund

A scholarship will be awarded to a student who has been involved in community activities or volunteer service during law school.

Kim and Mark Koro Scholarship

Two scholarships will be awarded to a continuing law student who demonstrates financial need.

Law Alumni Board Scholarship

The Law Alumni Board established this scholarship in 2017. The scholarship will be awarded to a student with proven academic success, demonstrated financial need, and a commitment to serving the law school as demonstrated by his or her involvement in law student organizations.

Lawrence Mahlum Memorial Scholarship Fund

This scholarship will be awarded to a student who is in the work place or in the military and is wishing to obtain a law degree to enhance their skills or make a career change. Priority will be given to a part-time student.

LGBTQ Alumni Scholarship

The LGBT Alumni Scholarship will provide a scholarship to be awarded to an LGBT student at USD School of Law, including entering 1L students, who has demonstrated a commitment to advancing LGBT issues. Preference will be given to students who have overcome challenges in pursuit of their education.

Professor Lou Kerig Endowed Scholarship Fund

Alumni seeking to honor Professor D.V. (Lou) Kerig created an endowed scholarship fund. Two scholarships will be awarded to students who are in the upper 50% of their class, have financial need, and have excelled in Evidence.

The Honorable Louis M. Welsh Endowed Scholarship

An endowed scholarship fund was established to continue the legacy of the Honorable Louis Welsh. The scholarship will be awarded to encourage a continuing student who exemplifies the highest ethical standards and believes in the humanity of the law. The applicant should demonstrate their passionate desire to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a trial lawyer. The applicant should show academic promise and demonstrate financial need due to life issues.

Mary and Alan Schulman Scholarship

Students qualifying for two scholarships will be in the top half of the class and they must contribute to the diversity of the law school generally because of their socio-economic background, life experiences, personal circumstances or other obstacles they may have overcome.

Max and Gussie Gonick Memorial Prize for Academic Excellence in the First Year

Established in 2008 through the generosity of Jerry Gonick '84 and Susan Gonick '86, the Max and Gussie Gonick Memorial Prize for Academic Excellence in the First Year is awarded to the returning day-division student with the highest grade-point average at the end of his/her first year.

The Gonick Prize honors the memory of Jerry's parents, who shared a lifelong love of learning that they instilled in their children. After working hard to establish themselves in the United States, Max was scheduled to enter dental school just as the Great Depression hit. Out of necessity and a sense of responsibility, they put aside their own hard-fought aspirations, and worked menial jobs to support their growing family, never losing their admiration for intellectual excellence.

Michael & Karen Lurie Social Responsibility Law Scholarship

This scholarship is provided to a student with a demonstrated interest in social responsibility causes related to the intersection of law, business, and/or government.

Michael J. and Deborah J. Rider Scholarship Fund

Awarded to a student at the Univeristy of San Diego School of Law who has a demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to a student who is the first in his/her family to pursue a law degree.

Michael Konz Memorial Scholarship

Michael Konz was a second year evening law student who worked full time at General Dynamics Convair Division as a human relations specialist. Michael was killed tragically in a work-related incident in 1992. His family, friends, classmates, professors, colleagues and General Dynamics established this fund in Michael's memory. This scholarship will be awarded to a continuing part-time student in the upper one-half of the class who works full-time. A candidate who best embodies Michael's philanthropy, wit, optimism, integrity, and his dedication to the study of law will be selected. Letters of recommendation are suggested.

Michael Mohr Memorial Scholarships

Two scholarships are awarded annually to students who have finished in the upper one-half of their respective division. In addition, the students should demonstrate financial need and must have participated in the intramural program or allied activities, displaying strong character, sportsmanship and enthusiasm for the program.

Moller Scholarship Endowment

Three scholarships are awarded annually to a continuing law student who demonstrates financial need.

Price Family International Studies Fund

Multiple scholarships are awarded annually to students participating in the study abroad program.

Procopio International Tax Scholarships

These scholarships are awarded to LLM students based on the merits of the applicant's scholastic and professional experience.

Professor Joseph Darby Endowed Scholarship Fund

Scholarship will be distributed to a USD School of Law L.L.M. student studying International Law and will be known as the "Darby Scholar."

Professor Paul Wohlmuth Memorial Scholarship

Having taught at USD School of Law in the areas of complex systems, jurisprudence and discretionary justice among others, a scholarship has been established to commemorate Prof. Paul Wohlmuth's contributions to the law school. This academic-based scholarship is for evening students with preference given to continuing students.

Qualcomm IP Scholarship Program

The program provides an annual three-year award to three entering law students who are graduates of USD, the University of San Diego, California (UCSD), San Diego State University (SDSU) or California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) and who have a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts or advanced degree in one of the following fields of study: Engineering (including Electrical Engineering), Computer Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Biologic Sciences, Bioengineering, Physics or Mathematics. Recipients must also demonstrate an interest in intellectual property or related areas of law. Under the terms of the grant, preference will be given to women, minorities, people with disabilities and veterans entering the civilian workforce consistent with Qualcomm's Global Diversity and Inclusion Program designed to address the relatively low numbers of women and minorities in the STEM fields.

Richard A. Bayer Endowed Scholarship

One scholarship is awarded to the first-year part-time student who earns the highest grade in Property.

Richard A. Shaw Scholarship

An LLM Scholarship based on the merits of the applicant's scholastic and professional experience, as demonstrated by the contents of the applicant's admission file.

Ronald Maudsley Memorial Scholarship

Professor Ronald Maudsley, during his life, stressed the importance of aspiring to the highest possible standards and working up to one's fullest potential. The award originally funded by the Maudsley family to memorialize Ronald Maudsley's commitment to the University of San Diego will be given annually to a second year full-time or part-time student who best exemplifies these traits, taking into consideration his/her academic accomplishments at the law school and the potential for scholarly achievement.

Ronson J. Shamoun RJS LAW Scholarship

One or more scholarships each academic year to student(s) who have graduated in good standing from USD School of Law and who have been accepted by USD School of Law in their graduate program in tax.

Roseann Gerold Hoffman Endowed Scholarship

Created in memory of his wife, Judge Herbert Hoffman established this scholarship that will be awarded to a full-time law student, who demonstrates strong moral character and financial need.

Schwartz Semerdjian Cauley & Moot Community Service Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a law student who has demonstrated commitment to community service in San Diego County. The scholarship supports the firm's efforts to encourage and promote voluntary community service by its attorneys and by future members of the legal profession. The scholarship will be awarded to a law student who meets the requirements and has demonstrated financial need.

Shurko Family Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a continuing student who demonstrates financial need.

Sol G. Dubroof Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a continuing student who demonstrates financial need.

Thomas F.L. McCauley Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a law student at USD School of Law who has a demonstrated commitment to community service and in the words of Thomas F. L. McCauley, one who is interested in putting his or her talents and skills "to the service of the innocent and disadvantaged." The scholarship supports the donors' interest in honoring the wishes of Thomas F. L. McCauley to promote voluntary community service by future members of the legal profession.

Tim C. Rothans Public Service Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a part-time law student, currently employed, who is interested in serving the public in their legal career. The classmates and family of Mr. Rothans who created this scholarship hope that will inspire future generations of professionals to serve the public's interest.

Turner Diversity Scholarship

This scholarship has been funded by Vickie Turner, a past Distinguished Award recipient. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who enriches diversity, demonstrates need and has evidence of strong academic achievement.

Vargas Scholarship

Funded by a gift from USD Law Professor Jorge A. Vargas and his family, this scholarship is awarded to a student who enriches diversity, demonstrates need, has evidence of strong academic achievement and makes a formal commitment to improve relations between the United States and Mexico in the legal or judiciary areas.

Vern D. Schooley Endowed Scholarship Fund

This endowment was created by Vern D. Schooley to provide annual scholarships to law students who are in good academic standing and who are making good progress towards completion of the requirements to earn the degree of Juris Doctor. A preference will be given to students who demonstrate an interest or inclination to pursue a career in patent law.

Virginia C. Nelson Legacy Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a 3L or 4L law student with demonstrated academic success and financial need.

Warren Family Endowment For Student Assistance

Sixteen scholarships are awarded to assist students in the second and third year full-time divisions. The awards are based on academic performance, financial need and demonstrated commitment to serving diverse communities.

William C. Kuebler Award

Created by the Class of 1996 during their 20-year reunion in 2016, this scholarship is for students who have demonstrated courage and/or tenacity in his/her personal/profession life and who have an interest or have participated in Moot Court.
