Ken Alex

Ken Alex is a supervising deputy attorney general in the environment section of the California Attorney General’s Office. From 2000 to 2006, he also worked on the energy task force, investigating price and supply issues related to California’s energy crisis. Alex has handled cases under most federal and state environmental statutes and has negotiated some of the country’s largest environmental settlements. He represents California in the public nuisance actions filed against power and auto companies for emission of CO2 and for global warming. California Lawyer named Alex an “Attorney of the Year” in 2004 for his work in energy law, and he received the American Bar Association award for Distinguished Achievement in Environmental Law and Policy in 2007 for global warming work. Alex is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz and Harvard Law School, and has taught courses on environmental law and policy at Stanford Law School; University of California, Hastings College of Law; and Golden Gate University School of Law.

Environmental Law Society

The University of San Diego Environmental Law Society (ESL) strives to expose students to all facets of environmental practice and sponsors discussions on current issues in environmental law. ELS encourages its members to gain practical experience by offering many opportunities to work with local attorneys on pro bono environmental cases. The main goal of the ELS is to give students a feel for what it is like to practice in this field.
