Policy Regarding Academic Credit Internships with a Stipend Provided

Occasionally, USD Law students are offered stipends for their work at government or public interest law offices. When a student is offered a stipend for work at a government or non-profit employer, a student is not precluded from receiving academic credit under the Agency Internship Program so long as:

• The stipend does not exceed $2000;
• The student will be working at the placement for more than 400 hours (which is common to placements in government and public interest settings);
• The student does not or will not receive any other outside grants (excluding student financial aid administered by the Law School) or compensation from any source other than the stipend; and
• The student meets all other requirements of the Agency Internship Program.
  This policy applies only to internships government offices (including the judiciary) and public interest employers.
