Event Overview

Please join us for a special event with USD School of Law Professor Frank Partnoy as he interviews renowned investment advisor and corporate governance expert Jon Lukomnik about his new book.

What They Do With Your Money: How the Financial System Fails Us and How To Fix It provides deep insight into the evolution of a financial system – one of the greatest achievements of modern times – that is in desperate need of practical reform and modernization.  The book details a financial system woefully laden with inefficiencies and high fees, and misaligned to allow financial institutions to place their business interests ahead of their clients’ needs. The results promote short-term thinking in both the financial system and corporate America generally. That, in turn, is corrosive to building trust or long term value.  Taking a holistic view, What They Do With Your Money examines multiple portions of finance today – from investors to asset managers to banks to regulators to economists – and explains how we got to this point and how to move us to a system featuring both time-tested values and today’s technology.

The need for reform of the financial system is absolutely essential to broad-based economic prosperity, the authors assert. Without it, we can’t solve the world’s great problems like poverty, sustainability and development. Without it, we can’t move money, finance business, provide retirement plans, or offer mortgages and loans. With so much at stake, What They Do With Your Money is a book that analysts, economists, policy makers, and anyone with a retirement nest egg can’t afford to ignore.

A book signing will take place after the program and copies of the book will be available for sale.
