On February 15, 2017, USD School of Law will be hosting a reception at the San Diego Bar Association to celebrate the newly established Harvey Levine Scholarship Fund and honor the life and work of Harvey Levine.

The evening will include a keynote speaker, Bill Shernoff, Levine's former law partner, as well as founding partner of Shernoff, Bidart, Echeverria, LLP. Shernoff is credited with pioneering the bad faith cause of action - one of the few new torts established in the 20th century. Shernoff has been described in The American Lawyer as the attorney insurance companies fear most and is recognized as one of the nation's "Top 10 Litigators" by the National Law Journal.

Shernoff will address his experience in the field and future trends in bad faith litigation, as well as his experience as a long-time partner and friend of Harvey Levine.

About Harvey Levine

Harvey Levine was a brilliant lawyer and a gifted professor at USD School of Law. Levine was committed to representing the little guys and was described as the "model for how a plaintiff's lawyer should be." He was selective with cases, lacked bombast in the court and put his client's interests first.

Levine successfully litigated countless cases during a nearly 40-year career, capped by membership in the state’s Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame.  He left an indelible mark on the San Diego legal community through his extensive trial work as well as his leadership as a legal professor at USD School of Law. Levine moved to San Diego and, at the age of 28-years-old, became one of the youngest professors at the University of San Diego School of Law, where he continued to teach for more than 20 years.

University of San Diego School of Law is a State Board of California-approved MCLE provider and certifies that this activity is approved for 1 hour of general credit.
