Diversity Scholarships for Current Students

Christopher McCallister Memorial Scholarship
Family, friends and the Class of 2007 seeking to honor the leadership qualities and entrepreneurial spirit that were hallmarks of Chris McCallister’s life created this scholarship. An award is available to a third-year law student in good standing who contributes to the diversity of the law school and/or to the legal profession generally because of their socio-economic background, life experiences, personal circumstances, or other obstacles he/she may have overcome. Preference is given to a student who has demonstrated leadership and entrepreneurial skills in professionally related endeavors or in community service or volunteer work (may include leadership roles in student-related activities and projects).

Congresswoman Lynn Schenk Endowed Law Scholarship
Two scholarships will be awarded to female law students who demonstrates tenacity and determination and who are of modest family economic circumstances. The awardees must be highly self-motivated (demonstrated by work outside of school and overcoming obstacles in pursuing education) and see challenges as enriching. The awardees must have knowledge and appreciation of the struggles of women in America for equality and of those who came before her to take on the struggles of equality. They must demonstrate a desire to open doors for others in the future. Additionally, the awardees must support the values of the Lawyers Club of San Diego, a feminist bar association seeking to advance the status of women in the law and society. In addition to the application, the scholarship committee has requested that a supplemental 1-page statement be submitted prior to the final decision being rendered. The topic will be provided to the finalists.

Delroy Richardson Endowed Law Scholarship
San Diego Gas and Electric endowed this scholarship in memory of their long-time employee Del Richardson. Del was a USD alumnus who was active in community and campus diversity issues. Grants from the Richardson family, other alumni, law firms and corporate contributors have supplemented this endowment. This scholarship is awarded to a student who enriches diversity, demonstrates need and has evidence of strong academic achievement.
