AbstractCalifornia?s Legislature and courts want former spouses to get the support they have bargained for in marital settlement agreements or have been awarded by the court as part of its divorce decree. Family Code § 3590 provides the mechanism by which the courts satisfy this policy. Family Code § 3590 gives parties to marital settlement agreements the necessary incentives to negotiate alimony provisions that, because they will be enforceable in the manner of court orders, likely will be performed.
