AbstractThe assignment of a mark in the Lanham Act system implicates the interests of the assignor (that is, the mark's owner before the assignment is made), the assignee, the registration agency (that is, the patent and Trademark Office or PTO), third parties (for example, persons who are competitors of the assignor and/or assignee, or who are using marks similar to the mark involved in the assignment), and the consuming public. In this essay I consider the details of mark assignment for the perspective of the assignee.
