Areas of Expertise
Professor Gruben teaches advanced legal research.
Professional Experience
Gruben worked as a professional law librarian at the State Law Library in Austin, Texas. In 1977 he began a long tenure as librarian, then director, then firm-wide director of libraries with the law firm of Vinson & Elkins LLP, where he remained for 25 years. In 2001 he became the practice information support director for the law firm of Squire Sanders. In 2004 he joined St. Thomas University Law School’s Library as law library director and associate professor of law. He joined the USD School of Law faculty in 2009.
Honors and Affiliations
Gruben is active in library associations, serving on the executive board of the Texas Library Association and the executive board of the American Association of Law Libraries.

Gruben’s publications include Parker’s Texas Business Statutes (Parker Publishing, 1996); Parker’s Texas Uniform Commercial Code (Parker Publishing, 1996); A Reference Guide to Texas Law & Legal History, 2nd Ed. (Hambleton, ed.) (Butterworth, 1988); a chapter in Law Librarianship: A Handbook for the Electronic Age (Kehoe, Lyman and Mcann, eds.) (Rothman & Co, 1995); and a chapter in Law Librarianship in the 21st Century (Scarecrow Press, 2007).
