Richard J. Wharton

Adjunct Professor of Law

Areas of Expertise

Professor Wharton teaches in the area of trail advocacy and environmental litigation and is a supervising attorney for USD's Environmental Clinic. 

Professional Experience

Wharton practiced environmental law and civil litigation before being hired to direct the USD Environmental Law Clinic. Since that time he has directed the Environmental Law Clinic and taught civil practice, lawyering skills, environmental law, international environmental law, and the practicum. In 1987, he founded the USD National Mock Trial Team, which has achieved national prominence.

Wharton's publications include California Civil Trialbook (with Haydock and Sonsteng) (West Publishing, 1990).
