The Young Tax Lawyers will be hosting Stuart M. Hurwitz, JD, LL.M to present on "Employment Taxes and Worker Classification Audits." Employment taxes have a unique place in our Federal and state tax system. Their importance has been highlighted by the IRS’s recent Voluntary Classification Settlement Program and September 19, 2011 Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Labor. Mr. Stuart M. Hurwitz will address the current employment tax structure, how employment tax audits occur and are conducted, and the elements of a worker’s classification. Mr. Hurwitz will also discuss current events and practical applications during a worker classification audit.
Mr. Stuart M. Hurwitz is a highly experienced attorney specializing in tax and audits. Mr. Hurwitz is a past Chairman of the California State Bar Taxation Section and is a California State Bar Certified Specialist in Taxation. He has been an Adjunct Professor of Corporate Taxation at the University of San Diego School of Business, served as an expert witness for taxation and accounting, and authored numerous research papers. Mr. Hurwitz holds a BS in Business Administration and Major in Accounting from the Ohio State University, his J.D. from the University of Nebraska School of Law, and his LL.M in Taxation from the University of San Diego School of Law.
