Legal Writing and Research
Thank you for your interest in Legal Writing and Research I and II, the first year classes at USD School of Law that teach students how to think, research and write like lawyers. To simulate the rigors of an actual law practice, students work very hard in our classes.
In the fall, students write four major writing projects, at least one of which is a rewrite. They also complete a number of major research assignments. Our focus in the fall is objective writing, which is writing that predicts how the law will impact a client's fact situation.
In the spring, students learn how to write persuasively. They learn to use the law to argue for their client's position. Students write an appellate brief and argue their side in front of a panel of judges, comprised of judges and attorneys from the San Diego Legal Community.
