Lawyering Skills I

student

Thank you for your interest in Lawyering Skills I, the first year class at USD School of Law that teaches students how to think, research, and write like lawyers.  To simulate the rigors of an actual law practice, students work very hard in our classes.

In the fall, students write four major writing projects, at least one of which is a rewrite.  They also complete a number of major research assignments.  Our focus in the fall is objective writing, which is writing that predicts how the law will impact a client's fact situation.

In the spring, students learn how to write persuasively.  They  learn to use the law to argue for their client's position.  Students write an appellate brief and argue their side in front of a panel of judges, comprised of judges and attorneys from the San Diego Legal Community.

Our students inevitably tell us that Lawyering Skills I was key to their success in practice.  Please take a look at the links on the left if you would like to learn more about our program.
