Microsoft Windows 7 Now Available!
We are happy to announce that USD computers are transitioning from Windows XP to Windows 7. All classrooms and computer labs will be upgraded during Summer 2011 and all other areas will be upgraded beginning mid to late Fall 2011.
All new replacement cycle computers will be deployed with Windows 7 and Office 2010 beginning June 2011. If you are a Faculty or Staff member, you will have the opportunity to upgrade your existing computer (if compatible) to Windows 7 mid to late Fall 2011.
WHEN will this happen:
- June - August 2011: all computer labs and classrooms will be upgraded
- June 1, 2011 - August 2012: Available on all new replacement cycle computers
- Mid to late Fall 2011 - August 2012: Available for upgrade to all Faculty and Staff
WHY the Upgrade:
- Windows 7 is Microsoft's newest operating system which offers a better user experience than any previous operating system.
- It has more enhanced features, such as a cleaner interface and improved security.
- ITS will be discontinuing Windows XP support by 2014.
HOW do I get it:
- If your computer is up for replacement or you would like to purchase a new computer, please fill out the appropriate form at: http://www.sandiego.edu/its/support/forms.php
- If you would like to upgrade your current computer to Windows 7, please read the Windows 7 Preparation Steps and then contact the ITS Help Desk at 619-260-7900 or by email at helpdesk@sandiego.edu to schedule an upgrade
