Blackboard for New Faculty
Welcome to USD! The following will help you get started with Blackboard Olé, the learning management system used at the University of San Diego.
Blackboard provides faculty, students, and staff with a robust, full-featured set of tools for managing online classes to enhance student learning. The tools include the ability to provide digital content for courses, including syllabi, lectures, quizzes, and assignment submission, while also providing an opportunity to collaborate online through chat, message boards, and web conferencing.
If you have any questions about Blackboard, please contact the iTeam at x7900 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Attend a Blackboard 9.1 New Users Workshop
Faculty new to USD are required to attend a Blackboard Essentials training session held at USD prior to teaching in Blackboard. These sessions cover USD-specific Blackboard information and ensure that faculty understand USD's Blackboard guidelines and procedures and have the opportunity to learn about integrated products and resources.
Sign up for a Blackboard Essentials Training today!
If you are unable to attend a scheduled session, please contact the iTeam at email@example.com to make alternative arrangements for getting your course activated.
Request a Sandbox course
A Sandbox is a practice course not connected to student enrollments that will allow faculty to test out features of Blackboard or build a course in advance of a semester. To request one or more Sandbox courses, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Get started with online resources
Peruse Blackboard's Instructor playlist on YouTube to help you gain practice with specific features or learn how to use a more advanced tool, and visit the Faculty Help tab within Blackboard to find out about Blackboard opportunities at USD and download software to make your Blackboard experience more efficient.
