Windows 2000

  1. Connect your Ethernet cable to your computer and the Ethernet port on the wall.
  2. Turn your computer on.
  3. Select Start >> Settings >> Network and Dial-Up Connections. Double click on Local Area Connection.
  4. Select Properties. If Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is not listed, then select Install >> Protocol >> TCP/IP. If it is listed, go to step 6.
  5. Click OK on the open panels until you get back to the Local Area Connection properties. Highlight TCP/IP, the select Properties. Make sure the settings are “Obtain an IP address”. automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically.
  6. To confirm that you are ready to register:
  7. Select Start >> Run.
  8. Type “command” and select OK.
  9. On the DOS screen that opens up, type ipconfig /all. Make sure that there is a space between the “g” and “/”.
  10. Type ipconfig /release. The IP address should become all zeroes (0.0.0.0).
  11. Type ipconfig /renew. The IP address should change.
  12. Type exit and press Enter
  13. Restart your computer.
  14. Open your network browser (Netscape, Internet Explorer, etc.) and register your computer on the network. (Go to page 11 for MySanDiego Registration instructions.)

Troubleshooting

Most Windows 2000 issues can be resolved by restarting your computer. If that does not work, please try the steps listed below.

  1. Go to “Start”.
  2. Click on “Run”.
  3. Type in “command” and click OK.
  4. A command prompt window pops up and type in “ipconfig/renew” and press enter.
  5. Open an internet browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) and see if you can get on the web.
