What is GIS? (this link will take you to the ArcGIS web site)
ArcGIS is licensed for your work computer only. If you have a work laptop, you may use the software on that laptop anywhere. However, the software cannot be installed on a personal home computer. For use on a home computer, you should use one of the ArcEditor Student 1-year edition licenses. Please contact the Software Desk for more information on obtaining a license for home use.

Using GIS for facilities management offers schools an excellent opportunity for efficiencies and cost savings. Having GIS software installed and shared through the IT departments can help to take advantage of facilities management opportunities as well as helping with the spread and use of GIS across the campus. With more students exposed to GIS, their opportunities for employment also increase.
Please take a moment to look at the updated data model for facilities management available from this link: www.esri.com/datamodels/bisdm
Additional data models, or templates, are available in the User Communities List.
Mapping templates, such as the campus map viewer, might also be of interest to you.
The ESRI International User Conference will be featuring a track for Facilities Management. If you have a solution in place, or are working towards one, consider entering a paper for this year's conference. Call for Entries.

Teaching GIS: Learning
Through Modeling
GIS is a learning platform. ArcGIS offers students ways to learn that go beyond the traditional geographic focus of the tool. Learn about about some of these ways at the following link:
