Mission Statement
Academic Computing supports instructional and research activities at the University of San Diego through the provision and maintenance of electronic information resources, computing and related support services, and network access to digital electronic resources. In this context, Academic Computing manages and maintains both network and computing services across campus in support of the overall educational mission of the University. In particular, Academic Computing:
- supervises and staffs public access networked lab facilities for students and faculty,
- provides network computing services for faculty in the various schools through its support of the campus TCP/IP backbone and numerous school and departmental servers;
- provides, maintains and supports web and email services for students and faculty; provides primary support for University home page(s);
- manages and maintains the library automation computing system (database maintained by libraries);
- manages mini-computing services and access to the Internet;
- manages, upgrades, maintains and supports the academic devices and protocols on the campus wide data network including TCP/IP, IPX and Appletalk;
- provides user training and consultation for commonly used desktop applications and specialized academic software supported by Academic Computing.
