With the migration from Exchange to Gmail in 2016, the current ITS policy is that we are not officially supporting connection of Gmail to mail clients like Outlook, Mac Mail, or Thunderbird.  However, this does not mean that Gmail accounts cannot be mapped to these programs.  In our investigation, we noticed substantial inconsistencies when trying to send and receive USD email through mail clients like Outlook.  Email would frequently be delivered late, if at all, and would occasionally be delivered to the wrong place in the inbox.  These problems did not seem to have any pattern, and many other universities have reported similar problems when moving from other email systems to Gmail, so ITS upper management made the decision not to support connection to mail clients for these reasons.  

 

You are still, of course, welcome to map your account to Outlook.  You may find that your experience with Outlook is fine, and not affected by these inconsistencies.  However, the ITS Help Desk can only offer limited support of mail clients, and we cannot guarantee that the mail client will work with any success. Google has provided tutorials for common email clients here.
