Clicker FAQs
Q: How do my students register their devices and enroll in my class:
A: Click Here for student instructions and how-tos. We urge you to make copies of this document and distribute the first day of class.
Q: Can I use my existing PowerPoint lecture slides with CPS?
A: Yes! You can bring your PowerPoint slides into CPS and add easily question slides. See Page 7 of the getting started handout for simple instructions.
Q: I am setting up my class and am being prompted for an instructor code. Where would I get that?
A: Contact iTeam (or x7400) for your instructor code.
Q: How can I tell whether the system is working, receiving incoming responses?
A: Your started kit includes a demo clicker with a lifetime demo code so that you can enroll this pad and use it to test the equipment and learn CPS. Use the student handout to complete this process with your demo clicker.
Q: My classes are not all taught in the same room. How can I use my CPS database on more than one computer?
A: Store a copy of your CPS database on a flash drive so that you can access it from any computer you may be working on, whether it is a Mac or a PC. Always drag a copy of that database over onto the desktop and access the desktop copy when opening the CPS program.
Q: Does CPS follow FERPA guidelines?
A: Yes, eInstruction closely follows FERPA guidelines. Any online information is protected by user-created passwords and instructors must agree to adhere to FERPA guidelines if they wish to upload grades of individual students to their private accounts. Acceptable directory information as outlined by FERPA is requested during individual account creation, and users can opt out of including that information. For more information, go to:http://kb.einstruction.com and search for 'FERPA.'
Q: My student's response pads continue to say 'joining'...
A: This could be caused by several factors:
- The student still needs to enroll in the class on CPS Online. See the student handout for instructions.
- The instructor has not synchronized the roster since the student enrolled in the class. The roster automatically synchronizes when you launch CPS software from a computer that is connected to the internet.
- If the class is quite large, more time may be needed.
- If the problem persists, try going to 'Settings' > 'Delivery Options' > 'Receiver Tab' > 'Tuning Panel' in the CPS software to adjust the settings.
Q: One of my students is unable to register the response pad and gets a message that it is already in use. What should he do?
A: A CPS response pad can only be used with one account at a time.
- If the student is trying to create a new account and already has an account, they need to use the account that has already been created. They can retrieve their access information if forgotten, by using the username/password retrieval tool or by contacting technical support at 888.333.4988.
- If the student is trying to register through WebCT and has an existing CPS Online account, they will be prompted for their existing account information and should not try to create a new account.
Q: A student is reporting that the enrollment code is invalid. What should she do?
A: Be sure she is typing the code in correctly. Often a 1 will look much like an l and can easily be confused. Be sure she is entering the code beginning with 'e0x0' or 'e100' and not the ISBN or bar code numbers. Students need only enter the enrollment code for the first class they register for in a given semester. For subsequent classes, leave the enrollment code field blank.
Q: The response pad will not power on.
A: Reset the pad by removing the batteries, holding down the PWR/JOIN button for 20 seconds and then replace batteries with new ones. If this does not correct the situation, please contact technical support at 888.333.4988.
