Project Overview:
Beta testing for CamSpace

The iTeam became beta testers for a new program that locks on to up to four colored objects within the vision of an ordinary computer webcam. This allows users to use the objects to control anything from the mouse pointer to a trigger in a first-person shooter game. With this technology, several emulations were developed for different applications. One allows the user to shoot by moving the thumb and forefinger in a game called Portal, created by Valve. Another allows the use of a steering wheel made of paper to control airplanes, buses, and cars in other games. On the more practical side, an emulation was created to allow the user to control a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation by simply moving a piece of paper in different directions. The paper would also control a pointer and have the capabilities of starting/exiting a presentation. These were brought together in an edited video to be featured at the Faculty Open House in the Fall.
