Java Compatability with CE
Please read the following carefully to ensure that your
CE class is Java compatible
The following information about Java compatibilities will ensure that your CE course functions properly. Because CE only validates specific versions/releases of Java, you must have one of these releases installed, otherwise you risk running into problems. Blackboard is aware of these problems and is currently working on updates for our system that will correct these incompatabilities. Until then, please check the following to ensure that CE will work properly for you and be sure to pass this information along to your students as well!
- Java 1.5.0_07 or 1.5.0_11 are the only validated product releases currently supported by CE. Check your Java version by going to your Control Panel>Java and click on 'About' to see if you have one of these validated/supported versions.
- If you find that you do not have any Java installed on your system, proceed to the link below to get the free download.
- It is critical that you have only one single instance of Java (one of the two versions mentioned above) installed in order to ensure proper functionality. In order to determine whether or not you have multiple instances of Java installed, go to Control panel>Add or Remove Programs and scroll down the list to where Java programs are listed. If you see that you have multiple instances, you will need to uninstall all but one of the validated versions. Again, if none of the versions you see listed on your screen are validated, uninstall all and go to the link below to download the supported version you will need.

- Once you have successfully installed the validated Java version on your system, go to Control Panel>Java and click on the Update tab. Be sure that the 'Check for Updates Automatically' box is de-selected (leaving this feature enabled will allow Java to update to a new and unsupported version).
