Steps of the migration process

  1. ITS contacts a division or department to notify them that they are next on the list for migration to Exchange Sever 2007. ITS also sends the unit a list of Faculty, Staff and Administrators believed to be affiliated with that unit for review.
  2. The unit identifies a point of contact for the migration process. This person then reviews the list of Faculty, Staff and Administrators and updates or amends as needed. Once the list has been reviewed for accuracy, it should be returned to Amanda Goodrich in ITS.
  3. In the meantime, the Operations Team begins working to ensure that all people on the list have an AD (Active Directory – what is this?) account. In order for an AD account to be created, an AD Account Request Form (download here – PDF) must be submitted. Only the following sections of the form need to be completed:
    • Page 1, Section One. Be sure to have the supervisor sign the form.
    • Page 4. Read and then acknowledge the ITS Guidelines and Policies.
These two signed pages should be sent via campus mail to Amanda Goodrich in Maher Hall, Room 187.
  4. The point of contact will begin to collect the additional requested information, (such as Faculty/Staff e-mail client, PDA use, etc.) as indicated in the spreadsheet provided. This additional information will help to ease the transition to Exchange Server 2007. Once completed, the spreadsheet should be returned to Amanda Goodrich.
  5. Amanda Goodrich (with the help of the point of contact) will coordinate and schedule visits between an ITS technician and the Faculty, Staff and Administrators of the unit.
  6. A technician will then come to the Faculty, Staff or Administrator's office to perform the migration and ensure that any questions about the migration or Exchange Server 2007 are answered.
  7. Depending upon the size of the unit, ITS may also schedule an onsite training session during the migration period.

Tips

  • To reduce the amount of time that your migration will take, we recommend that e-mails prior to January 1, 2009 remain in your current e-mail client, stored on your computer as an archive.
  • The migration time may vary, depending upon how many e-mails need to be migrated and what client you are currently using.
