Other Alert

UPDATE 05/01/2014

Microsoft has released a patch for this vulnerability for all versions of Internet Explorer.  Although support for Windows XP has been discontinued, Microsoft has made a one-time exception and also released a patch for XP.  You should perform a Windows Update on your computer and install the latest updates as soon as possible to eliminate this vulnerability.

------------------

Microsoft is warning users of a newly discovered security flaw in all versions of its Internet Explorer web browser for Windows PCs.  This flaw allows hackers to hijack Windows computers and run unauthorized programs on affected systems.  Microsoft is currently working on a patch for this flaw.  When the patch is released, it will only be available for computers running Windows Vista or newer.  The patch will NOT be available for computers running Windows XP or older.

If you are currently using a computer running Windows XP or older, we strongly recommend consulting with your area technician or the Help Desk about upgrading to Windows 7 or replacing your computer with one that will run Windows 7.  If your computer runs Windows 7 or 8 and you are concerned about this security flaw, we recommend using an alternate web browser (such as Firefox or Chrome) until Microsoft releases a patch for Internet Explorer.

Please contact the ITS Help Desk if you have any questions or concerns.

Contact Help Desk for more information.
