IT Departments and Services

Information Technology Services is the umbrella organization which provides technology support services to the USD community. This page gives an overview of the teams within ITS and the services we offer as well as Web site links where more information can be found.

Academic Technology Services

  • Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.

ATS maintains the Computer Labs on campus. To reserve a computer lab for a class session, please call extension 4810 to see if your desired time is available or use our online reservation form. A confirmation for your requested time and date will then be e-mailed to you.You can also fill out and fax us a form found on our Useful Forms page.

To sign up for computer tutorials, please refer to the IT Training Web site or call extension 4810 where someone will be available to help you.

To obtain a new MySanDiego e-mail account, please visit the ITS Help Desk in UC 117 or any of the computer labs on campus. E-mail accounts are activated one hour from the time they are issued.

Desktop Support Services

Desktop Support Services is the unit that oversees the ITS Help Desk (formerly the Help Desk), the technicians located in the various schools at USD, and the computer replacement program on campus.

If you need help with your desktop equipment or software, call the ITS Help Desk(x7900) and they'll see that you're assigned a technician who can assist you.

The ITS Help Desk is your first stop for getting assistance with computer hardware and software, telephone, email and network problems in campus offices, labs, and student residence halls.

For assistance with computer problems, dial x7900 on campus or 619-260-7900 from off campus.

If your question is hardware related, the ITS Help Desk can help you directly with your equipment. If your particular issue cannot be solved over the phone, an appointment can be made for a technician to troubleshoot your office computer in person.

If your questions relate to supported software applications, the ITS Help Desk will find the appropriate technician or user services consultant to assist you.

Students may visit the ITS Help Desk in UC 117 to get a new MySanDiego e-mail account. Tech Support will make an appointment to go out and help students who are experiencing network, virus, or e-mail issues in the residence halls.

The ITS Help Desk also provides basic troubleshooting for Windows and Macintosh computers, as well as assistance with e-mail, web browsing, operating systems, and software.

Instructional Technology Services

To check out classroom equipment such as laptops, data projectors, overhead projectors and other multimedia equipment, please call x4567. You will need a valid USD identification card in order to check out equipment for a specified amount of time. Please check the Instructional Technology Services Web Site for more specific information on the types of equipment offered.

Also known as Media Services, Instructional Technology Services maintains multimedia equipment in classrooms around campus. If you encounter malfunctioning equipment in a classroom, please alert Media Services at extension 4567. Media Services also provides videotaping, scanning, printing, and digitization services for your classroom needs.

Enterprise Resource Planning Technologies

  • Location: Maher Hall 151
  • Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This unit is in charge of all large-scale implementations and project management. Primarily, this team is responsible for Banner and Oracle projects and upgrades, as well as the Luminis portal, MySanDiego.

Library and Web Services

University Web Services is a group of talented web developers who design, build, and enhance websites for the university.

Network Infrastructure Systems & Services

  • Location: Maher Hall 199
  • Hours: M - F, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Telecommunications: phone x7500;;  Hours: M -F, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

This unit is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring and managing the campus network infrastructure, the external internet connection, and the wireless services around campus. Telecommunications assists with voice mail, cable TV, data, network connections, cell phones and calling cards.
