We are now accepting faculty proposals for the Fall semester of 2008. Please see Forms to complete and submit a proposal. Dealine for submission is September 15, 2008.
The Student Technology Assistant Program is designed to help faculty members enhance or increase their use of technology in their instruction and classroom. Students are paired with faculty members based on knowledge and skills and project requirements.
What are the benefits to the faculty member?
- Curriculum and teaching enhancement
- Technical assistance by knowledgeable STAs and ITS employees
- Funding to purchase software and hardware necessary to complete the project
Who is eligible to submit an STA proposal?
- Instructors must be full-time faculty,
- Instructors must have attended CE6 training is proposing the development of an online course,
- Instructors must be available and prepared to begin work on their project at the time of acceptance into the program.
What are the faculty member responsibilities?
Faculty responsibilities for accepted proposals include:
- Regular meetings with the STA.
- Provide STA with clear job tasks and goals for the project and due dates.
- Provide feedback on STA performance to the Program Supervisor.
- Inform the STA Program Supervisor of any changes in project or schedule.
- Goal of the project is to result in use of technology to facilitate learning and teaching.
- To promote and share STA project outcomes with USD community.
How will faculty participants be selected?
Proposals will be selected based on the potential benefits to the students in course(s), as well as on the potential learning and collaboration experiences for the Student Technology Assistant.
Other factors to be considered in the project may include:
- Impact on a significant number of students.
- Enhancement of instruction usually delivered using traditional teaching methods.
- Innovative and creative use of technology.
- Utilizing existing ITS services and resources.
- Feasibility of the project with the time and resources available.

What happens once a faculty proposal is selected?
Upon acceptance to the STA Program, a Program Supervisor will contact the faculty member to arrange the initial meeting with the Student Technology Assistant. At that time, the Project Design Agreement will be completed and signed by all parties.
