The Four Types of Study Abroad Programs

There are FOUR main categories of study abroad programs through the USD College of Arts & Sciences: sponsored, affiliated, exchange & non-affiliated.

Sponsored

These programs are administered by the University of San Diego. Courses are taught by USD faculty and carry on-campus residency. Courses do not need to be transferred. Currently, all USD summer programs are sponsored. Tuition is considerably lower than on-campus tuition. Financial aid is only available in the form of loans.

Affiliated

These programs are administered by a USD affiliated institution in the United States or abroad. Tuition is paid directly to the University of San Diego at the full-time semester rate (12-18 units) and all other fees are paid directly to the affiliate institution. Currently only semester programs are affiliated. Affiliated programs do not carry on-campus residency and USD funded financial aid is available for one semester only. Students must check with an advisor in the Office of Financial Aid Services for applicability of their funding.

Exchange

There currently is only one exchange program offered through the University of San Diego in cooperation with the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores del Occidente (ITESO). Most financial aid will apply and tuition is paid directly to USD for this program. The USD - ITESO exchange program carries on-campus residency. Visit the ITESO web site at: http://www.iteso.mx

Non-Affiliated

USD students are welcome to participate in any program abroad that interests them, however, they must be aware that credit for courses taken through these programs may not be accepted by the University of San Diego and will not be eligible for financial aid. Students wishing to participate in a non-affiliated program should refer to the Non-Affiliated site.
