St. Clare's

Oxford, an internationally respected intellectual center, combines traditional ceremony and the beauty of ancient buildings with the amenities of a lively, modern, industrial city. This cultural hub offers libraries, museums, art galleries, concert halls, theaters and cinemas, as well as parks and gardens, rivers, sports grounds, swimming pools and an ice rink. Just outside of the city center lies the picturesque countryside, easily reached by bus or bicycle. There are fast, frequent road and rail services to London, Heathrow, Gatwick, the Midlands, and the West Country. Stratford-upon-Avon is also within easy reach.
Academic Program
This program, offered by St. Clare’s, an independent international college in Oxford founded in 1953, is for international and University students who wish to supplement their studies with a semester or full-year of liberal arts courses in England. The curriculum includes both core courses and tutorials (special courses offered on a one-on-one basis with select professors). The fall semester runs from the end of August until mid-December; the spring semester from early January to mid-May.
Eligibility, Applications, and Deadlines
Students with a minimum GPA of 2.8 are eligible to apply to participate during their sophomore or junior year. Selection for the program is based on a written application, a review of transcripts, and letters of recommendation. Preliminary applications are available in Founders Hall, Room 106 or can be downloaded by clicking on "Applications/Forms" on the toolbar to the left. Deadlines for applications are generally in late September and late February for participation in the following semester.
Living Arrangements
Students live in dorm-style accommodations provided by St. Clare’s.
Expenses
Tuition for this program is the same as for full-time, on-campus attendance at USD and is paid directly to USD. Other program fees such as room and board are paid directly to St. Clare's. Estimates for these program fees and personal expenses can be obtained from the International Studies Abroad Office located Serra 315.
