Description of Project/Purpose of Travel
The purpose for Dr. Agnew's travel is to do primary-source research for scholarly a presentation in Belfast and to write a subsequent article on Pablo de Santa María. Dr Agnew will also conduct primary-source research for his book project, "Figures of the Historian in Fifteenth-Century Spain." The paper will also be read at at the International Conference on the Medieval Chronicle at Queen’s University in Belfast.

Description of Project/Purpose of Travel
At the invitation of the University Minuto de Dios School of Peace and Development in Bogotá, Colombia, Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice (IPJ) Dee Aker and her staff will initiate exploration of collaboration on several levels with the Colombian university.  The IPJ will observe workshops being offered in gender and conflict resolution, work with faculty at the university to share best practices in gender-sensitive conflict resolution training, and write a paper comparing useful practices in conflict settings of Colombia and Nepal (IPJ’s on-going work). The paper will be presented during International Education Week (if the July date is possible) or in a Daylight lecture program during the 08-09 school year; outcomes will be submitted to the 2009 International Peace Studies Association conference.

The purpose of Dr. Camacho's travels is to conduct research for her manuscript, The Paradox of Paradise: Tourism as Economic Development, She will be specifically to collecting qualitative and quantitative data, and performing archival research.

Description of Project/Purpose of Travel
The purpose of Dr. Cordy-Collins' travels is to meet and learn about the Saami, indigenous reindeer herding people of the western Polar Region, and to conduct Saami research in the Arktikum Museum, Rovanieme, Finland. She will then travel to Copenhagen, Denmark to present a research paper at meetings at the European Paleopathlogy Association.

Description of Project/Purpose of Travel
While in Iran, Dr. Davary will continue research titled, "Contemporary Women’s Movement in Iran: The establishment of Religious School for Women in Isfahan and Qum." This research focuses on women’s religious school and their curriculum. The formation of these religious schools for women as a gateway to official entry into the realm of –authoritative- engagement with classical textual Islam has yet to be explored. For this reason, Dr. Davary finds it important to conduct research on the curriculum of the school in Isfahan and at howzeye elmi’ye khwaharan (seminary for women, established in 1985) in Qom.

The purpose of the trip is for Dr. Doak to participate in an international gathering of theologians from Europe, Canada, the United States, and Mexico at the International Theological Conference on “Creative Theology for an Age of Globalization” to present current research on the challenges and opportunities globalization presents to contemporary Christian theology.

Description of Project/Purpose of Travel
This project is an opportunity to increase the international profile of both Robert Fleming and the University of San Diego. He will direct a solo show called "Fish in the Sky," in a two week residence at a professional regional theatre in Aurillac, France. The interdisciplinary nature of the work done by him and his collaborator, Claudine Morand, compliments the interdisciplinary focus of the undergraduate Theatre Arts program at USD and his research in particular.

Description of Project/Purpose of Travel
Dr. Gillman wil be conducting research and interviews at the library and study centre of Holy Spirit Seminary in Hong Kong. She will also extend her current Chinese contacts by visiting institutions that teach biblical studies or theology in Macau and/or Taiwan. The specific article she plans to work on regarding this research will deal with her observations as an American teaching biblical studies to Catholic students in Hong Kong.

Description of Project/Purpose of Travel
Dr. Peter Gratton will present papers at two conferences. For the first conference, he is not only presenting a paper, also organizing a panel of international scholars on the work of the philosopher, Jacques Derrida, at the International Association for Philosophy and Literature (conference dates: June 30 – July 5). He has also been asked to be an on-site coordinator to help set up the conference before it begins. The title of the paper he will be presenting is, "Derrida's Thought on Globalization and the Possibility of Local Knowledge." Dr. Gratton will be organizing the scholars from France, Austria, the UK, and Australia. A week later, Dr. Gratton will be presenting a paper called, "Just Violence and the Violence of Metaphysics" at the Derrida Today International Conference (July 10-12) in Sydney, Australia.

Description of Project/Purpose of Travel
The purpose of Dr. Gray's trip is to continue field work started in August 2007 to collect sediment samples and oceanographic data, and to meet with researchers in the Virgin Islands to work on joint research proposals for funding this research program.  She hopes to establish a long-term ongoing program of collaborative research, education and outreach in partnership with researchers at the University of the Virgin Islands and local non-profit environmental organizations.

Description of Project/Purpose of Travel
The purpose of this travel is to present a paper at the Joint Meeting of the International Group of Psychology of Mathematics Education, the largest international organization in the area of psychology of mathematics education. Through this travel, Dr. Inoue would like to present his research project at USD to the international audience, interact with them, and receive feedback from a wide variety of scholars in the area.

Description of Project/Purpose of Travel
During her travels, Dr. McAllister will continue to collaborate on a project about Mexican environmental enforcement with Dr. Antonio Azuela de la Cueva (http://www.iis.unam.mx/areas/urbanos/azuela.html). She will also conduct additional field work at the offices of PROFEPA (Procuraduria Federal de Protección al Ambiente, Federal Attorney General for Environmental Protection) and at the offices of companies that participate in Mexico’s environmental auditing program.

Description of Project/Purpose of Travel
The purpose of Dr. Nadkarni's travel is to conduct research for her book titled, Handbook of the Politics of Central Asia. The time period covered in the handbook will be contemporary, with a focus on the dynamics and causes behind current issues in the region—it is not intended to be a historical treatment, but rather a work centered on internal and regional political issues, as well as the geopolitics affecting the stability and international role of Central Asia.  Central Asia will be considered to consist of the five former Soviet republics of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan.

Description of Project/Purpose of Travel
As part of an ongoing research agenda on the connections between religion and
environmental awareness in Hinduism, and also in preparation for a topics course he is
preparing on the “Past and Future of Gandhian Non-violence in India,” Dr. Nelson intends to visit several ecological and social-justice activist organizations in India inspired by Gandhian ideals. These would include Manav Sadhna, is an NGO based at Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat; the Sadhu Vaswani Mission in Pune, Maharashtra; the Center for Science and the Environment in New Delhi, and the Eco Ashram in Rishikesh, Uttar Pradesh. The purpose would be to interview participants and gather literature (often unavailable in libraries in North America) for an article on the continuing relevance of Gandhianism in India and for course preparation.

Description of Project/Purpose of Travel
The purpose of Dr. Manzur's travels were to present at the Academy of International Business (AIB) Annual Meeting. AIB is the leading academic organization for scholars of International Business, and thus one of the key research venues for presentations and review of working papers on international business topics.  Typically, presentations done by Dr. Manzur at academic conferences represent the first step in the external review of his research, and is an essential step in the process towards ultimately attaining a journal publication.

Description of Project/Purpose of Travel
The purpose of Dr. Ramsey's travel is to conduct research and meet with faculty at the University of Cape Town in order to understand South African law on the application of international human rights standards in national courts.   The topic of his research is International Human Rights Law in National Courts: Comparative Analysis.
His goal for the research is to produce an article directly comparing U.S. and South African experiences, and then to have it serve as the basis for a larger integration of comparative materials into his teaching and writing on the issue.

Description of Project/Purpose of Travel
During Dr. Serbin's travels to Brazil (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Brasília) He will be launching the Brazilian edition of his award-winning book Needs of the Heart: A Social and Cultural History of Brazil’s Clergy and Seminaries (University of Notre Dame Press, 2006). In Brazil the Portuguese translation of the book will be published as Padres, Celibato e Conflito Social (Priests, Celibacy, and Social Conflict) by Companhia das Letras, Brazil’s top commercial publisher. Dr Serbin will be doing a week-long book tour with book signings; radio, television, and newspaper interviews; and talks before academic audiences and at the headquarters of the National Conference of Brazilian Bishops in Brasília. Secondly, he will be joining fellow officers of the Brazilian Studies Association (BRASA) to meet with Brazilian officials for two days to help plan our Tenth International Conference, scheduled for July 2010 in Brasília.

Description of Project/Purpose of Travel
The purpose of Dr. Tu's travels is to present two papers at the 13th Asian Real Estate Society Annual Conference, held in Shanghai, China from July 12-July 15, 2008. The titles of the papers are, "An International Perception of the Quality of Real Estate Research Publication Outlets " and "Time-Varying Diversification Effect of Real Estate in Institutional Portfolios: When Alternative Assets Are Considered." During this trip, Dr. Tu will also be exploring new research ideas and discussing collaboration opportunities with researchers in other countries. He will also establish a connection with academics and real estate professionals in Asia, particularly in China. Through these contacts, he hopes to enhance the international contents of his existing courses and possibly develop new courses.

The purpose of Dr. Yin's trip is to conduct fieldwork to investigate the impact of recent urban development on archaeological sites. Dr. Yin and colleagues submitted a proposal to the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE) recently and this will serve as a pilot study.
