Located on the Pacific Rim and just 22 miles from the Mexican border, the University of San Diego is optimally positioned for international activity. USD has been involved in international instruction, research, and service throughout the world for many years, and we're expanding our activities with an increased emphasis on the importance of global awareness for the entire campus community.One of USD's strategic goals specifically addresses the importance of internationalization:

USD will become a more culturally diverse and culturally competent community through recruitment at all levels, deepening transborder and international educational partnerships, and involving students and faculty in international learning experiences.
