The Religious Upbringing of Children

Application

Even if you do not presently have children, it is recommended that you and your partner begin to explore how you plan to raise your children, particularly with regards to their religious upbringing. It is important to begin that dialogue now so that you and your partner can fully explore several different aspects of the issue. To begin that process, you and your partner are encouraged to answer the following questions and share your answers with one another. Don't forget to use your communication or problem-solving skills as necessary when discussing the topics.

1. What are the most important beliefs you want passed on to your child or children?

2. At this point in time, what do you believe is the best approach or plan for you and your partner regarding the religious upbringing of your child or children?

3. What factors are most important in leading you to recommend this plan?

4. What factors might lead you to change your mind?

5. Who do you think will have the greatest difficulty with this plan if you and your partner decide to adopt it?
