The University of San Diego’s Board of Trustees search for its fourth president is underway and the institution is inviting nominations and applications from persons who will provide superior and distinguished leadership.
The new president will succeed Mary E. Lyons, PhD, who, after 12 years of providing superb leadership to USD, announced last spring that she would be retiring from the presidency at the conclusion of the 2014-15 academic year.
Since Dr. Lyons’ announcement, a Presidential Search Committee has been formed and is chaired by USD Trustee Constance Carroll, PhD. A campus survey was used to gain insight and, during the summer, the committee formulated a search timeline and the creation of a Presidential Search Profile.
“The committee developed a Presidential Search Profile to serve as the primary document in the recruitment process,” Carroll said in an update this month. “The Presidential Search Profile benefited from the surveys, as well as many comments and suggestions received from members of the University community and members of the Board of Trustees.”
Carroll encourages the USD community to remain involved and informed about in the president search through a website — www.sandiego.edu/presidentsearch.
“The website provides information about the search, from the composition of the search committee, to the timeline, to the text of the presidential search profile, both to follow along with the process and also to nominate people who you feel may be good candidates for the position,” Carroll said. “Each of us will view the presidency itself and the candidates for this office through a different lens of emphasis, but all of us will be looking for someone who has the vision, experience, talent, skills, and devotion to excellence that this great university needs and deserves in its leader.”
