Knowledge Transfer Focuses on Marketing

Preparing to graduate next month with a degree in marketing? Currently majoring in marketing and want to gain some professional insight and network? Perhaps you’re looking into the possibility of marketing as a field of study or possible career path?

The answer to each question is simple: attend the University of San Diego Knowledge Transfer on Thursday, April 25 from noon to 2:15 p.m. in the Manchester Executive Conference Center Auditorium.

The Knowledge Transfer brings together USD alumni, USD parents and other industry experts to be part of a panel discussion about a specific topic a few times each academic year. Marketing is the featured discipline this time. Thursday’s panel consists of Hadi Abrishamchian ’08 (Shopper Marketing Manager, Mattel, Inc.), Everett Hernandez ’87 (President, Avanze Inc.), Laurie Pillings Rinker, USD parent (Principal, Brand Marketing Services) and a USD affiliate, Celine Vargas (Director, North America, Firefly Millward Brown).

Abrishamchian (pictured, left) has spent the five years since he graduated from USD in the consumer products and retailing industry. His work at Mattel, Inc., enables him to support all Mattel and Fisher-Price brands, including a marketing services role for Mattel and as a business partner with Amazon. He was part of an executive team leader leadership program at Target right after his USD graduation.

Hernandez, president/CEO and chairman of the board for Latin American Multimedia Corporation, is also president of Avanze, the premier multicultural research and consulting firm that serves U.S. multinationals across all business sectors. He has a wealth of marketing expertise with several name-brand company clients.

Pillings Rinker (pictured, below right), the mother of Alexis Rinker, a current USD student, is a marketing and branding strategist who has worked for 30-plus years in sales, advertising, marketing and branding areas. She’s currently the chief marketing officer for Mazzetti Engineering, a thought leader in healthcare environments.

Vargas’ marketing talents include her work spotting cross-cultural trends both nationally and globally, in the U.S. Hispanic market. Her experience covers working with companies in the technology, personal care and food areas. Vargas (pictured, above right) joined Firefly Millward Brown in 2011.

Moderating Thursday’s event is Thomas Yang, a USD business school adjunct professor in marketing who has worked with companies such as Proctor & Gamble, Coca-Cola, Clorox, Starbucks, Del Monte and Callaway. Yang (pictured, left) currently a partner with PrimeGenesis, a leading senior executive transition firm.

Knowledge Transfer is free to students and alumni and includes a complimentary light lunch. All majors are welcome to attend.
