The five 2013-14 recipients of a University Professorship — the highest academic honor that a University of San Diego faculty member can receive — were among nine faculty award winners announced on Monday by USD President Mary E. Lyons, PhD.
Michel Boudrias, Marine Science and Environmental Studies, College of Arts and Sciences; Laurence Claus, School of Law; Simon Croom (pictured, left), Supply Chain Management, School of Business Administration; Jane Georges (pictured, right), Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science; and Florence Gillman, Theology and Religious Studies, College of Arts and Sciences, are the University Professorship recipients.
The University Professorship award recognizes outstanding scholarly achievements in teaching and research.
Four more faculty member award winners were also announced.
The Steber Professor award, which is presented to one professor from Theology and Religious Studies and one from the School of Business Administration per the donor’s request, were given to Lance Nelson (pictured, left) and Alyson Ma (Economics), respectively.
The Steber awards recognize substantial contributions in the areas of teaching, research, and service.
The Herzog Endowed Scholar award recognizes the meritorious teaching and scholarly productivity the law professor honoree. The Class of 1975 Endowed Professorship, established by the Class of 1975 as its 25-year reunion gift to the law school, recognizes meritorious teaching, leadership, and academic accomplishments of the selected professor.
“We can all take great pride and joy in the contributions of these nine faculty to their disciplines and to USD, and we are delighted that their outstanding achievements are being recognized with these prestigious awards,” President Lyons said.
The faculty award recipients will be formally recognized at USD’s Fall Convocation event on Sept. 13, 2013.
