The calendar has turned to May and this means that the countdown to the end of the 2011-12 academic year at the University of San Diego — and for the Class of 2012, the countdown to graduation — is in full swing. But before students walk across the Jenny Craig Pavilion stage to receive their degrees from USD President Mary E. Lyons later this month, there are several opportunities to recognize and celebrate the work of USD students.
It kicks off today, May 1, with the annual Honors Convocation as undergraduate students — many of them seniors — being honored at Shiley Theatre for their academic excellence and more. The event starts at 12:15 p.m.
A host of end-of-the-year banquets and celebrations this month include:
United Front Multicultural Center’s Diversity Banquet (May 2), Ole Music Festival w/Matisyahu and Outasight (May 3 at JCP), Greek Life formals (May 4-5 and May 11-12), USD Athletics Celebration of Excellence (May 7), Women’s Center and Women’s and Gender Studies Banquet (May 8), TRiO McNair Scholars Recognition and Awards Luncheon (May 8), Resident Assistants Banquet (May 8), Campus Recreation barbecue (May 10), Student Bar Association Graduation Party (May 10), Student Support Services Recognition Ceremony (May 15), ANICA Recognition Ceremony (May 16), Student Alumni Association’s Finals Feeding Frenzy (May 16), Grad Night at San Diego’s House of Blues (May 24), San Diego NROTC Commissioning Ceremony (May 25), Black Graduates Recognition Ceremony (May 25) and the Chicano/a, Latino/a Graduation (May 26).
Commencement at USD takes place on two weekends — Saturday, May 12 for the School of Law and Saturday, May 26 (Graduate Schools) and Sunday, May 27 (Undergraduate College of Arts and Sciences and School of Business/Engineering Programs).
