May Events Conclude Busy USD 2009-10 Academic Year

Mayevents-photoThe month of May has arrived and the end of the 2009-10 academic year is rapidly approaching at the University of San Diego. Final papers and projects are due, final exams are just around the corner and those who comprise USD’s Class of 2010 are preparing for their walk across the Jenny Craig Pavilion stage.

In the midst of it all are various end-of-the-year celebrations and accolades for faculty, staff and students. Below you’ll find some of the events taking place this month.

May 4 — Gradfest, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., USD Bookstore; Honors Convocation, 12:30 p.m., Shiley Theatre; United Front Multicultural Center’s Diversity Banquet, 6 p.m., UC Forums; Chamber Music Concert, 7:30 p.m., French Parlor, Founders Hall.

May 5 — USD Burnham Moores Center for Real Estate Day at Petco Park. Tailgate (with food provided) begins at 6 p.m., San Diego Padres-Colorado Rockies game starts at 7:05 p.m. Fee.

May 6 — Student Performance Recital, 12:15 p.m., Shiley Theatre.

May 7 — USD Business Plan Competition Finals, 1-4 p.m. for undergraduates, 6-9 p.m. for graduates, Joan B Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice Theatre; Engineering Spring Open House, 2:30 p.m., Loma Hall.

May 8 — FUSO (Filipino Ugnayan Student Organization) End of the Year Banquet, 6 p.m., Maher Hall’s Salomon Hall.

May 9 — USD Associated Students Presents: ¡Ole! 2010 Concert featuring Lupe Fiasco, Shiny Toy Guns, Doors open at 6 p.m., Show starts at 7 p.m., Jenny Craig Pavilion. Partial proceeds to benefit Invisible Children.

May 11 — Last day of classes; Women’s and Gender Studies Program and Women’s Center Banquet, 5 p.m., Hahn University Center, Forums A and B; USD TRiO Upward Bound Senior Recognition Night, 6 p.m., Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice, Rooms A and B.

May 12 — USD TRiO Student Support Services Recognition Ceremony, 6 p.m., Hahn University Center, Forum C.

May 13 —Graduate Research Day, hosted by the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., UC Forums A and B; USD TRiO McNair Scholars Honors Luncheon, noon, Hahn University Center, Forum C; Finals Feeding Frenzy, 5:30 p.m., Degheri Alumni Center Courtyard; USD Sports Banquet, Reception at 5:30 p.m., dinner and program at 7 p.m., Jenny Craig Pavilion; Student Bar Association Graduation party, 7 p.m., Bristol Hotel, Downtown San Diego.

May 14 — Graduation Mass for School of Law, 2:30 p.m., Founders Chapel

May 14-20 — Final Examinations.

May 15 — USD School of Law Commencement, 9 a.m., Jenny Craig Pavilion; Reception for School of Law immediately follows commencement at Hahn University Center Forums A and B.

May 21-23: Commencement guide for Graduate students and Undergraduate students.

May 21 —Naval ROTC Commissioning Ceremony, 10 a.m., Camino/Founders Patio. Reception to follow at Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice’s Garden of the Sea; Black Graduates Recognition Ceremony and reception, 1:30 p.m., IPJ Theatre; Pre-Professional Graduates Reception, 3 p.m., Shiley Center for Science and Technology Atrium; Mass for Graduate Schools, 3:30 p.m., Founders Chapel; Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science Celebratory Reception, 4:30 p.m., School of Nursing building; School of Nursing Honors Convocation, 6 p.m., Founders Chapel.

May 22 —Graduate Schools Ceremony, 1 p.m., Jenny Craig Pavilion; Reception for School of Business Administration and Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies graduates, 2:30 p.m., Garden of the Sea (Business) and Garden of the Sky (KSPS);  Reception for School of Leadership and Education Sciences, 2:30 p.m., Mother Rosalie Hill Hall; Baccalaureate Mass, 5 p.m., Jenny Craig Pavilion; Chicana/o Latina/o Graduates Recognition Ceremony and Dinner, 6:30 p.m. Ceremony at Shiley Theatre, dinner at UC Forums A and B.

May 23 — Undergraduate Students Ceremonies: College of Arts and Science, 9 a.m., Jenny Craig Pavilion. Reception follows on East Marian Way in front of the Hahn University Center, 11 a.m.; School of Business Administration, Engineering Program, 2 p.m., Jenny Craig Pavilion. Reception follows on East Marian Way in front of the UC, 4 p.m.
