What is OOC? On Our Campus or "OOC" is the result of
recommendations presented by the Presidential Advisory Board on Inclusion and Diversity and adopted by the President Mary Lyons in the 2007 academic year and commencing in Fall, 2008. The OOC@USD is the "getting things done" branch of PABID and membership is not limited to PABID members nor are its activities only limited to the President's list. Mission Statement
OOC@USD is the implementation group for the PABID campus-wide initiative committed to the creation of a diverse, inclusive, and participatory community at USD. Through workshops, guest speakers, films, group exercises and video projects OOC@USD challenges the USD community to explore what unites us as a living collective.
Guiding Principles of the Initiative
• To engage in activities and practices that create safety, respect, and trust
• To engage in activities and practices that value differences so as to prepare the USD community for the diverse global society of the 21st century
• To define ourselves through narrative and story at both personal and community levels
The OOC Logo
The OOC logo is an adaptation of a "wisdom knot," a revered symbol of the Akan tribe of Ghana that conveys the idea that a wise person has the knowledge and experience to choose the best means to attain a goal. The symbol represents the potential strength in community and link between wisdom, ingenuity, and patience. Various aspects of the symbol imply fluidity, transparency, and seamlessness.
