Why Should I take this Program?

The Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science provides a singular education with one mission: We Prepare Leaders.  Our graduates are practitioners, researchers and educators at the vanguard of their disciplines.  For more than three decades, our faculty and students have gained a national presence in health care because we anticipate-and transcend-the needs of the industry.

Leading the Way

There is no better home for the rapidly developing field of health care informatics, which calls for professionals with expertise in both health sciences and information technology.  Our school is among the first in the country to offer this combination of advanced training.

USD’s program in health care informatics is cross-disciplinary, drawing upon the partnership of the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science and USD’s School of Business Administration, Department of Engineering and Department of Computer Science. Similarly, students come not only from health care, but also from business, engineering and computer science backgrounds.  Faculty members include informatics professionals from the San Diego health care industry.

Academic Excellence

Our standards are rigorous, and they equip students to adeptly manage health care information systems, understand the specific business needs of health care organizations and integrate health care information systems into clinical workflow and care delivery.  Through a full range of practical coursework and a residency in an agency setting, our students are prepared to serve in hospital systems, clinics, technology-driven companies, or to pursue further academic studies.
