Rewarding Opportunities to Live Olé!

Rewarding Opportunities to Live Olé!

What does it mean to be a Torero when you're a student at the University of San Diego? It means being an active participant in college life. It's about taking advantage of the many opportunities presented outside of the classroom and outside of your comfort zone to grow, to meet and engage other people and to purposely, rewardingly live Olé.

Our Lived Experience (Olé) is for USD students — first- and second-year, transfer, junior and graduating senior — to embrace as part of the university community, connect to the mission and develop wholly.

It occurs through authentic engagement where you activate and initiate positive change. It's through courageous living where you awaken your inner strength. By exploring who you are in relation to others, you define your identity and how you can serve within the Torero community. Finding your purpose in life happens by trying different things and seeing what sparks your interest. While doing all of the above, it's critical to be mindful of your well-being as a successful Torero embodies a healthy mind, body, and spirit.

Choosing to attend USD is opening a door to a world of possibilities because life and learning happen everywhere at USD. While a classroom is where our faculty provide students with a quality educational experience, that same quality learning and development exists through a local or overnight trip with Outdoor Adventures, attending a networking event through the Career Development Center, or engaging in discussion and listening at a United Front Multicultural Center #What'sTrending dialogue. Whether it is exploring your faith and a desire to connect through University Ministry's Small Groups, finding your passion to make a difference through the USD Changemaker Hub, or self-education in the Be Well at USD program, Olé helps you make meaning of what you're learning beyond the classroom. Through Olé, you're developing pathways for your unique learning experience at USD.

Living Olé rewards students for their desire to engage and to live out USD's mission. Living Olé can also be rewarding, literally, as students can participate through the MySanDiego portal and follow on the MySanDiego mobile app to amass reward points and be eligible to win cool, uniquely USD prizes and experiences, "things you can't buy, things that encourage further engagement," according to Margaret Leary, USD's assistant vice president for strategic initiatives and programs.

By living Olé, the university provides students with the tools that can help them discern what they want to do and help them become who they wish to be.
