U-T San Diego -- Everybody won something at the University of San Diego's third annual Venture Vetting, or V2, competition on Thursday, but landlords and universities may end up the big winners if the top-funded businesses succeed.
Alumni engagement platform Alumnify, cofounded by USD alumnus AJ Agrawal and current student Eghosa Aihie, won $40,000 of the $50,000 in seed funding earmarked for companies from USD.
The goal of the app, Agrawal said, is to solve the problem of university alumni who move away and lose touch with their alma maters and their networks. Alumnify aims to reconnect them with each other via common interests and spark in-person social gatherings. The bonus for universities, who will pay an annual fee of $5,000 to $10,000 for the service, is the potential for more alumni donations through the app. (Full Story)
