The university relies on the generosity of alumni, parents and friends to help close the gap between tuition and the cost of education. We find that a quick telephone call from a student is a pleasant way to stay connected and engaged with the university.
In addition, it gives us an opportunity to update you on events and campus happenings. Our student callers also enjoy speaking with alumni about life after USD, and with parents about life on campus.

Q: Where does the money go?
A: Your gift is used to support academic programs exclusively: scholarships, financial aid, faculty enrichment, new buildings, technological updates and materials for the library. The best part? One hundred percent of your gift supports wherever you wish.
Q: Are the telefunding callers really students at USD?
A: Yes. We employ 35 students throughout the year who represent a variety of majors, cities, states and countries.
Q: When do I call?
A: Our normal hours of operation are Monday-Thursday, 3-5 p.m. and 5:30-9 p.m., and Sunday 3-6:30 p.m. Pacific time.
Q: Is my gift tax deductible?
A: Yes. Your gift is 100 percent tax deductible. Once we receive your gift, you will receive a receipt verifying that your gift has been allocated to the account you have specified.
Q: May I use my credit card?
A: Yes. We encourage you to make your gift by using your VISA, MasterCard, American Express or Discover credit card when on the phone with a USD telefunding caller. This is a secure way to make sure your gift benefits USD students right away. Your credit card gift helps us save postage and paper costs.
Q: May I choose where I want my gift to go?
A: Yes. While unrestricted funds are always needed to support a wide variety of programs at USD, many alumni and parents choose to designate a gift to a department, scholarship fund, academic program, sports team, or other area about which they are passionate.
Q: May I call you back?
A: Our student callers use a state-of-the-art automated computer system to contact you. These stations do not accept incoming calls. You may contact the USD Telefunding Office at (619) 260-4754 with your questions or concerns.
Q: Will my company match my gift?
A: Very possibly. Hundreds of companies will match a gift by an employee. This can double or even triple your gift to the University of San Diego. Visit our matching gift page or contact your human resources department for details. Please note that spouses of employees, retired employees and board members are often eligible for the match as well.
Q: How do I make a gift over the phone?
A: Simply tell the student how much you would like to pledge and then give the student your credit card information. You will receive a letter and receipt for tax purposes. If you would rather pay by check, we will send you a pledge reminder for the amount you specified over the phone along with a thank-you note from our student. An envelope will be provided for you to return your gift. It’s that simple.
