Developing ways to distinguish your company from the competition is a key ingredient for successfully marketing any business, whether it is local, regional, national or international. By establishing a strategic partnership with the University of San Diego, you open the door to prominently co-branding your organization through sponsorship and promotional opportunities that give you access to more than 50,000 USD influential alumni, current students, their parents, faculty and staff and the community.
USD’s Office of Advancement Marketing and Strategic Partnerships is responsible for developing creative fundraising materials, special events and university-wide corporate partnerships.
The department coordinates a comprehensive partnership marketing program while also serving as the central clearance point for philanthropic requests made to companies. The team guides inquiries from industry leaders — about collaborations, professional education, internships, co-branding and sponsorship opportunities, student recruitment, and other corporate requests — to appropriate USD programs, faculty and staff. The team also advises faculty, staff, advancement colleagues and other university personnel in identifying potential corporate funding sources, as well as provides assistance in preparing sponsorship plans and proposals.
Alliances between USD and its corporate partners provide resources that support capital projects, scholarships, special events and other institutional priorities.
Strategic partnerships — integral to our innovative approach — enhance the effectiveness of USD’s advancement marketing efforts by uniting the university with corporate leaders who seek to add value to their philanthropic aspirations.

Foundation gifts provide the extra resources that allow USD to achieve the next level of success, the margin of excellence that lies beyond what tuition alone can support. National, regional and local family foundations fund critical areas that extend beyond the capacity of tuition and investment earnings. Examples include:
- Construction funding allows USD to build new academic structures
- Scholarship funding assists USD students with their college expenses
- Program funding supports new and emerging USD programs and projects
- Endowment funding establishes in perpetuity USD professorships, scholarships and chairs
- Equipment funding purchases specialized equipment, often in the form of an endowed fund
- Center funding provides spaces that contribute to the overall fabric of the university
The Foundation Relations department serves as the university’s central clearing house for all foundation interaction, including site visits, proposal tracking, approach clearance and coordination. A quarterly newsletter, Funders' Council Newsletter, is published highlighting foundation and federal support.
