Partnerships. We depend on people willing to partner with us to make things happen: to start what is needed, to improve what already exists, and to complete what is unfinished, all to make this world a better place for ourselves and for those around us. That, too, is our purpose at the University of San Diego as a premier Catholic university with an increasingly higher regional, national and international profile.
The pages that follow recount our continued progress at USD, the result of the countless sustaining partnerships we enjoy. It is our enduring commitment to impact society that has led to a campus-wide, collaborative focus on fostering and supporting meaningful change. Our mission compels us to act at home, across the nation and around the world through ethical leadership and compassionate service, social innovation and entrepreneurship.
We have seen our faculty, staff, students, alumni and parents collaborate this year as never before. The success we are enjoying with Living Learning Communities on campus promote the benefits of professors and students, administrators and staff, engaging with one another on topics, issues and activities of common interest and passion. Exciting new interdisciplinary majors, community service-learning projects and student-led social ventures illustrate daily the power of partnerships at this Changemaker campus.
Burgeoning enrollments in the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science are responding with advance practice education and research to respond to the growing demands of our health care provider partners. The reach of the School of Business Administration is now global, providing students and professors a variety of diverse international business experiences, opportunities and exchanges in collaboration with companies around the world. The expanding Mobile Technology Learning Center in the School of Leadership and Education Sciences collaborates with teachers and administrators in area schools to maximize the impact of technology in the classroom, as well as with the School of Law, which has collaborated on research, advocacy and services to support veterans returning to the classroom after their service to our nation. This year we also initiated a partnership with the Franciscan School of Theology to share select facilities, library resources, faculty expertise and experiential learning with students at both institutions.
Supported by the gifts of our generous benefactors, we opened our 2013 Torero baseball season in the magnificent new Fowler Park, and later in the year, inaugurated the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering. Both projects became a reality through wonderful philanthropy, extraordinary collaborations, teamwork and synergies for a better, stronger, more exciting University of San Diego.
And through your own faithful support and collaboration — your advocacy, your financial contributions and your generous gifts of self — we can and will achieve more. I am grateful and proud to be working with you to make our university distinguished, distinctive and a driving force for good in our community, our nation and around the world.
