PLOT (read the text by Giono. Here is the bone dry version):
A new baker comes to town with his wife, the former one having committed
suicide. The baker is
The Baker’s wife is seduced by (or seduces ?) the shepherd and disappears
with him. The baker stops baking bread.
The entire town joins forces to bring the baker’s wife back so he starts
baking bread again. The baker’s wife returns, repentant. The men
and women of the village do not point the finger at her and welcome her
back as if nothing had ever happened (except perhaps for the old spinster
and the priest whose criticism is subdued by the villagers). The
baker forgives and bakes again. The village rejoices.
